Description:

Following the Goddess's footsteps, revisiting the original感動!
The untold history of Ys, a mystery even Adol couldn't solve, is now revealed for the first time.
The disappearance of the Goddess, the beginning of a legend.

The disappearance of the twin goddesses marks the opening of the latest installment in the classic Japanese ARPG series, "Ys: Origin" (hereinafter YSO). With a brand-new combat system, more refined 3D graphics, and the most abundant storyline in the series' history, this game has become a hot topic on various gaming websites. However, what surprised players the most was that the protagonist is no longer Adol, the legendary red-haired adventurer known for his many romantic encounters.

The Richest Storyline in the Series' History

The game is set seven hundred years before Adol's era, bringing the story's focus back to the origin of all legends—the land of Ys itself. Therefore, while players won't be able to explore with the familiar Adol this time, they will see the long-absent twin goddesses and the Six Priests who left behind the six Books of Ys. They will also uncover the secret of Ys's demise, a secret even Adol never fully understood. With the largest cast of characters in the series' history, including pivotal figures like the twin goddesses, Falcom (the developer) naturally put great effort into the overall story planning, making it substantial and well-structured. As players fully uncover the truth of the story through the male and female protagonists and a hidden protagonist, they will understand the connections and foreshadowing between this game and Ys I and II, undoubtedly feeling that it was well worth their time.

Adol vs. Multiple Protagonists

Another change, in line with the storyline, is the series' first-ever multi-protagonist system. Players can initially choose between Yunica Tovah, a hot-headed apprentice knight who knows no magic, and Hugo Fact, a genius sorcerer who can wield the powerful artifact "Fact's Eye." Yunica excels in melee combat, so her playstyle is similar to the red-haired hero of old, using a powerful axe to defeat enemies. However, as the character levels up, elemental attacks like wind, fire, and lightning become more important, changing her combat style. Overall, veteran Ys players will quickly adapt.

The Truth from the Third Adventure Hidden in the Shadows

Players will find a more significant difference with the sorcerer Hugo. His gameplay can be described as the result of incorporating elements of a shooting game. The key to playing him is maintaining distance and seizing opportunities to elegantly clear enemies with powerful magic. The exhilaration of defeating enemies will make players feel that the protagonist truly lives up to his genius reputation, making him an excellent choice for beginners. Despite their distinct playstyles, both protagonists share a common goal: to reach the top of the mysterious "Devil's Tower." However, after players endure a series of intense battles and reach the summit, they will suddenly realize that the story truly begins at that point—a third adventure emerging from the shadows…

New Elements, Greatly Enhanced Combat Excitement

In addition to the multi-protagonist system, new features have been added to combat, such as the new "Burst" skill. Different characters gain unique traits when entering "Boost" and "Burst" modes. For example, the female protagonist can unleash elemental attacks by consuming half her MP, or wildly and violently sweep the entire area with her axe. Other rich actions include double jumps, special attacks, and various combat skills, giving YSO the most exciting combat system in the series' history. Furthermore, players can acquire various weapons and armor, and use the blessings of goddess statues and Cleria Ore to refine and enhance their weapons and abilities, thus strengthening the combat system without neglecting RPG elements. In boss battles, players can even climb onto bosses for close-quarters combat. Even bosses from Ys I and II will appear in the game according to the storyline, surely evoking a wave of nostalgia for veteran players! Additionally, the game thoughtfully offers difficulty selection modes, allowing beginners to gradually unravel the truth behind the demise of Ys!
